Two UK trade unions have issued statements in support of the Kurdish resistance in Kobane. Unite – the UK’s biggest trade union – offers “support and solidarity to the people of Kobane who have been in a relentless battle over the past month to protect their city, their human rights and secular society”. It commends the “bravery shown by the Kurds in Kobane in defence of the entire community” and condemns the Turkish government for “putting its own nationalist politics ahead of the Kurdish people”.
The Executive Council of the UK Fire Brigade’s Union (FBU) has also issued a statement calling for “international trade union solidarity and support for the defenders of Kobane”.
