Iraq parliament sets up oil and energy committee to resolve dispute with Kurdistan Region

The Iraqi parliament has set up a committee to try and resolve the protracted oil and energy disputes between the central government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

The committee has 12 members from different political groups represented in the parliament. It has been tasked with drafting new legislation in respect of oil and energy production relations between the two main areas of federal Iraq.

Committee member Furant Sharq told the Iraqi Central Media Network: “New legislation in respect of oil and gas will be the main strategy, to organise good relations between Baghdad and Erbil. There are 54 articles in the Oil and Gas law, four of them are at the centre of the disagreement between Baghdad and Erbil. These four points are related to ownership, management and production. Eventually we will resolve all of them in one law”.
