PUK-KDP relations tense
While the KDP’s president, Masoud Barzani, sent a harsh message to Nouri Al Malki, the Iraqi premier, and mentioned “unexpected” decision by Kurds if Baghdad’s pressure continues on them, the PUK leader Adel Murat has met with Maliki about deescalating the tensions. PUK media outlets announced that PM Maliki has promised Adel Murat to send the KRG’s share from the national budget who has been suspended for two months, though KDP officials denied that this is happening. The PUK and KDP media have started campaigning against each other over the Baghdad-Erbil Crisis. On the other hand, Kosrat Rasul, th PUK’s first Deputy Secretary General, has said that the future of Kurdistan can’t be decided by one or two political parties, but it requires a general consensus in reference to Barzani’s attempt to use the separation card against Iraq. Rasul has also urged political parties to step up their efforts toward forming the KRG’s new cabinet. In a response to Rasul’s warning, the KDP has announced that the KRG’s new cabinet formation will be announced “soon” and that the KDP will provide the final version of the cabinet structure to the political parties within two days.
