ISIS militants are suspected of using a “chemical weapon” in yesterday’s onslaught on the besieged Kurdish city of Kobanê in Rojava, northeast Syria.

Wedat Muhammad, a Kurdish journalist now in Kobanê, told KT in a telephone interview that ISIS killed 6 Kurdish fighters of the Peoples’ Protection Units (YPG) yesterday, but post-mortem examinations of the bodies have shown that “they were likely killed by chemical weapon.”

He said: “Doctors checked the bodies and once they came out of the clinic they said that there are no signs of gun-shot wounds on the bodies, while parts of the bodies have unusual burns, there are signs showing some of them had vomited before they were finally dead and the bodies have a very unusual smell. They say it is likely that they were killed by chemical weapon.”

He added: “It is now widely held in Kobanê that SIS is using chemical weapon against YPG fighters, but we are all waiting for an official confirmation from the local authorities.”

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reports: “Two bodies of YPG fighters did not have any indications of gunshot or shrapnel wounds and they were completely burned. The doctors are confused about the kind of weapon that was used.”

Kovan Direj, a journalist on the ground in Rojava has circulated on social media that he has talked to the doctors who carried out the post-mortem examinations of the bodies of the 6 killed YPG fighters and that they suspect that they were killed by chemical weapons.

Direj says that the doctors have told him that they have seen very unusual burns on the bodies and under the skin, adding that the doctors are ready to send samples to any NGO working in the field to examine and determine what sorts of weapons were used to kill these YPG fighters in such an unusual way.

If we don’t go for our independence , it is not unexpected for Halabja & Anfal Genocides to repeat again. Learn from the Jewish state experience. Kurds are used to forgetting past miseries soon. There are some foreign-paid elements among Gorran, PUK, and Islamic parties who try to undermine the moral of our people in press. They will be held responsible toward their nation and country. I urge all Kurdish intellectuals to publish articles in support of independence, not the opposite. Some are paid to do so. Thats the biggest betrayal. We all shoulder equal burden.

    Independence. Now or never!
