Iran will soon construct a natural gas pipeline and crude oil pipeline to south Kurdistan, says Anadolu Agency quoting Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) officials. The first pipeline will carry crude oil from the Kurdistan Region to Iran, and Iran will refine and send back the oil. The natural gas pipeline will carry Iranian gas to Kurdish cities such as Sulaymaniyah and Irbil, according to the report.

Iran and KRG officials were in negotiations on these projects yesterday, Abullah Akrayi, KRG official responsible for Iranian Affairs, told the Anadolu Agency. He said the talks began last year but the construction work had been delayed due to the resignation of the Iranian oil minister, Rostam Qasimi.

“Iran will supply the oil and gas that we need. We expect that the [Kurdish] delegation and Iranian officials will come to a conclusion,” he said.

Iran’s Deputy Oil Minister for International Affairs, Ali Majedi, announced yesterday that Iran is ready to export natural gas to Europe, adding that this would reduce Europe’s dependence for gas on Russia.

Iran has the world’s second-largest known natural gas reserves.
