Helin Demirkol, the 25 year old daughter of Haşim Demirkol, BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) co-chair of Amed’s Çermik Municipality, was killed on Monday in clashes between YPG (People’s Protection Units) forces and ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) terrorists in Rojava/West Kurdistan. ANF/Firat News reports that Helin Demirkol died in fighting in the Girê Sevê region in south Kobanê. She had gone to Rojava from Amed to join the YPJ (Women’s Protection Units), following calls for volunteers to help defend the area from attacks by the al Qaeda-linked ISIS terrorists.

Helin Demirkol’s body was delivered to Amed yesterday and will be laid to rest at Yeniköy Cemetery today.

Last week Dilşad Amed (Ali Narin), the son of Sur Municipality’s BDP co-mayor Seyid Narin was also killed in action in Rojava.

Last October PYD co-president Salih Müslim lost his son Şervan Müslim, also in fighting between the YPG and ISIS.
