Why won’t the KDP allow Salih Muslim into KRG territory?

The progress in west Kurdistan over the last two years has been an outstanding part of the history of the Kurdish struggle. The west of Kurdistan is now largely controlled by the Kurdish people with some resistance from al Qaeda-linked fundamentalists. All along the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and its leadership was not so happy at this scenario because the biggest party in west Kurdistan, the PYD, advocates the ‘PKK path’ to liberate Kurdistan and its people.

PYD leader Salih Muslim has passionately participated in this struggle and he has sacrificed a lot. Recently one of his sons was killed and he has two more sons on the front line, fighting against the fundamentalists. This is the first time in the history of Kurdish struggle that a leader has sacrificed his child on the front line. Talabani and Barzani never lost any kids in the Kurdish struggle.

Salih Muslim had returned to the west of Kurdistan to participate in the mourning for his son and, for the last few days, he has tried to enter KRG territory to travel on to Europe.  However the KDP would not allow him to enter the territory of Kurdistan, giving different excuses.

Tonight three leading politicians from north Kurdistan – Ahmed Turk and BDP co-chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Gülten Kışanak – have all condemned the KDP. Gülten Kışanak told Firat News: “if Salih Muslim can go to the whole of Europe but cannot go to the south of Kurdistan that will be a great humiliation to the Kurds. What Salih Muslim is doing as a politician is struggling for the survival of the Kurds in the west, so he needs all the support from us but instead they close the door of the south of Kurdistan”.

A PYD representative told the Sbeiy website that this act is not the response of the people of Kurdistan to Salih Muslim. We can draw two conclusions from all this. First, the KDP is still in the hands of Turkish intelligence services and their prime minister Erdogan. Second, the KDP would not like to see another region of Kurdistan become independent. They see this as threat to the authority of their leader Masud Barzani because the PYD does not follow the Barzani line.

The KDP could instead have supported Salih Muslim in his recent loss and also helped build support for the Kurdish cause in the west of Kurdistan. The KDP’s shameful decision is a misjudgement and a missed opportunity. But it is not too late for KRG prime minister Nechirvan Barzani to adopt a better stance. Even at this stage the KDP can change course and reverse public opinion about this latest action of the party leadership.

Okay…an independent South Kurdistan where Kurds can abuse Kurds. Fantastic.

Islam is your salvation. Divide and rule is upon the whole Middle East. If the West you love truly loved Kurdistan and the Kurds, it would have pressed ahead for independence, but they haven’t, because they need ‘useful idiots’ in the region in order that the West maintains political, cultural, religious and social control over the region. Seriously, nationalists are so stupid. They then claim to be Muslims but put ethnicity and nationalism before religion, ignoring the fact that doing so is un-Islamic and that Islam is about uniting people from all walks of life from around the globe. Corrupt Western governments won’t allow this because they know it’ll destroy the dystopia the West wishes to maintain. They fear the truth and they fear justice.
