US Vice-President Joe Biden visited Erbil today, Thursday 2 December, and reaffirmed his government’s support for the Kurdistan Region. He said the U.S. military withdrawal at the end of this year does not equate to a withdrawal of U.S. commitments to Iraq.
Biden praised KRG President Barzani, describing him as “the real deal”.
“I very much appreciate you visiting us today in Kurdistan”, responded Barzani. “We are proud of the special relationship that we have with you. I would like to thank the United States for freeing our people from dictatorship. We appreciate your sacrifices. The democracy and freedom the people of Iraq enjoy today is the result of the sacrifices that you and the Iraqis have made”.
