By Peace in Kurdistan Campaign:
The President of the Law Society of England and Wales, Lucy Scott-Moncrieff, recently sent a letter to the Prime Minister of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, relating to her concerns about the deteriorating conditions for lawyers in Turkey who are being criminalised in the course of the undertaking their professional duties.
She raises the cases against 46 Kurdish lawyers, arrested in November 2011, whose rights under the European Convention of Human Rights have been repeatedly violated, as well as the cases of recent arrests of prominent human rights lawyers in Turkey and the President of the Progressive Lawyers’ Association, Selcuk Kozagacli.
