The three opposition parties in the south of Kurdistan have announced that they are not supporting any demonstration on the anniversary of the state killings of demonstrators on 17th February 2011.

According to their statement: “They are supporting the civil struggle leading to reform and political change and will not advocate any violence, etc”. This statement also calls on the two ruling parties to name the murderers of 17th February and bring them to justice.

At this stage the hopes and aspirations of the people are loosely coupled with the agenda of the three opposition parties. Today’s announcement comes at a time when the opposition is still hoping for some deal with the two ruling parties, although to date there is no sign of any tangible result.

Soft opposition that carries little weight because of its sea saw stand. If you want change, you bring on change, you force it. You can’t request it. I really hope the opposition parties would forget their ideological differences and focus in the main task of change.
