Open Letter to Boris Johnson

By Arian Mufid:

The Rt Hon Boris Johnson MP
Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs
King Charles St
LONDON
SW1A 2AH

Dear Secretary of State

I came across your article in the Daily Telegraph on Saturday 17 February entitled “Poor Pangolin is being butchered in the name of male virility”. I was quite surprised to see this, considering that you recently made an official trip to south Asia, visiting the troubled states of Burma and Bangladeshi. I was puzzled by your priorities in preferring to highlight the case of the suffering pangolin rather than matters of deeper significance as befits your role as the UK’s Foreign Secretary.

First of all, I would expect you to have commented on the plight of the Rohingya Muslims, subjected to a genocide at the hands of the Burmese government and its military apparatus, as evidenced by the burning of their houses and clearance of their lands, which obviously amounts to ethnic cleansing. More than 600,000 men, women and children are believed to have fled from their native state of Rakhine in Myanmar to neighbouring Bangladesh in order to escape from the Burmese state persecution which began in August 2017.

Secondly, I would expect you to raise the plight of the city of Afrin In the North of Syria, inhabited by the Kurds and defended by the YPG, which has been under attack from the Turkish army for the last four weeks, with hundreds of civilians killed and injured by Turkish bombardments of the city and surrounding areas. Every day there are around 70 sorties by Turkish aeroplanes that are bombing the area randomly to force people to leave their homes and homeland. Many people are starting to forget about the horrors that the war in Syria has brought to the whole of humanity. And the British government has kept very quiet about these latest Turkish atrocities.

One underlying truth to be derived from your article is that the powerful western world has no strategy to protect the citizens of the developing world which until yesterday was their colony.

Yours sincerely,

Arian Mufid

Johnson’s real interest is in becoming prime minister and leader of the Conservative party. He accepted the post of foreign secretary as a springboard. Also there is a lingering cold war anti-communism in the party, and they’re afraid of being linked to the PKK by association. Interesting the Ĺabour party won’t support the Rojovan project for the opposite reasons, they’re anti american imperialism, and so they don’t like the close relationship the USA has with ypg. Corbyn said nothing on Afrin until 3 days ago.
