Public Meeting:
Date and time – Wed 15 June, 7pm to 9pm
Venue – House of Commons, Committee Room 21
“On the anniversary of the murder Kurdish journalist Sardasht Osman, Freedom Umbrella is holding a public meeting in the House of Commons.
The meeting will discuss press freedom, as well as the current attacks on the right to demonstrate in Kurdistan. Sardasht Osman was a journalist and university student. He was murdered for writing an article critical of Massoud Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region and his Kurdistan Democratic Party(KDP). No-one has been brought to justice for this crime. His killing is symptomatic of the repression of journalists.
Press freedom and freedom of expression has been one of the demands of the on-going uprising in Kurdistan, inspired by events in Tunisia and Egypt.
Please join us in a public meeting on the mass protest movement demanding freedom and social justice in Iraqi Kurdistan”.
Hosted by: John McDonnell, Member of UK Parliament
