Jihadists issue new threats against Kurds

In a recent announcement the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (ISIL) threatens Kurds in Syria and orders its forces to kill male Kurds and take their females alive as booty. This is the second time that this terrorist organization is waging war against Kurds in Syria, due to their failed attempts to defeat Kurd forces under the control of the PYD, Democratic Union Party. Bank employees in Slemani go on strike

Public Bank employees in Slemani went on protest strike due to the delay in their monthly pay checks as a result of Kurdistan’s financial crisis. The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) faces a financial crisis as a result of budget-cutting by the Iraqi government beginning in January 2014. The KRG’s Ministry of Finance has recently announced that public employees will get their salary this week, but a majority of state employees haven’t yet got their pay check for February. (NRT)

Court may issue a new arrest warrant for Sangawi

A lawyer for the family of the assassinated journalist Kawa Germyani, has told the media that Mahmood Sangawi will be re-arrested soon based on an order of the appeal court. Kawa Latif said that the Garmian Appeal Court has reviewed the former order of the Garmian Criminal Court to release Mahmood Sangawi, who is accused by Kawa’s family of having ordered the murder. The lawyer said that the court will issue a new arrest warrant for Sangawi and he will be kept in custody for further investigation. Mahmood Sangawi is a Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) politburo member and military leader. (Awene)
