KRG must back resolution to block US arms sale to Turkey

US Congressman Eliot Engel (D-NY) and Congresswoman Shelley Berkley (D-NV) have introduced a resolution to the House seeking to block a proposed sale of US helicopters and other military equipment to the Republic of Turkey. Kurds everywhere will welcome this move, especially since Kurds are so often on the receiving end of the Turkish state’s aggression.

The resolution has been referred to the US Committee on Foreign Affairs. Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) serves on that committee but he has not yet signed the bill nor has he moved to promote the bill in Congress.  Our sources inform us that Qubad Talabani – the President of Iraq’s son and the KRG’s representative in the USA – has a close working relationship with Rep. Wilson. The following question urgently needs to be asked of the KRG’s representative: has Qubad Talabani approached Rep. Wilson to support the bill and if not, why not?
