By Dr Fereydun Rafiq Hilmi:
12. Fascism and racism disguised
I would like to mention the class system which I consider to be a mild form of slavery and against natural human rights.
All it takes to corrupt a nation’s value system is for a bunch of people to get into power for a short time and pass weird and obnoxious laws which are extremely difficult to remove or challenge for at least the length of that parliament. All sorts of new and strange ideas may be coined as principles and regulations without anyone being able to resist them. In fact one such value is a false sense of patriotism which centres on the idea that to challenge such laws would be unpatriotic and even treason because ‘Parliament’ – theoretically you – voted for them. Thus by implication democracy becomes rigid, solid and unchangeable, which is the antipathy of the basic principles of the game.
But the worst of these weird principles are established during times of war and conflict. A most evil one is the claim that the indiscriminate bombing and killing of civilians of a third world nation is merely ‘collateral damage’, and therefore acceptable. The warmongers, who do not mind killing and spilling blood for any whim, may even claim that it is for the good of those who are being bombed.
This dynamically valued system is loaded with hypocritical and duplicitous intentions, sometimes deliberately vague to allow escape routes. It would take a dictionary to try and decipher their true implications but even then this is not possible because of the illusiveness of their values. Politicians speak words from which we can infer the normal logical and accepted meanings although the true meanings may be the exact opposite. I believe we can safely use the opposite of all the words they use except for the logical connectives.
I am sure many would say: ‘Yes, we know all this, but what can we do?’ My first response is: if you know this, why do you elect opportunist, demagogic and corrupt liars? Why do you keep putting your entire life and interests, and those of your family and children, in their hands and put them on a pedestal, bestowing on them a holy image and calling them Sir?
13. Representative democracy means we give the power of attorney in all aspects of our lives to complete strangers
In court, in 2010, I faced the same sort of hypocrisy on the part of the defendants. In describing the horrendous blinding procedures, which I proved were not justified as I did not suffer from any blinding condition, they said that the ‘treatment’ was appropriate or acceptable. Clearly they never considered their patients until they were dragged into court. What chance then is there of retribution being offered to the Afghans, Pakistanis, Iraqis – or the Vietnamese and other unfortunate nations before them? Had the nations of the world come together to stop the Americans from ever again doing what they did in Japan we would not be facing all the war crimes that have been committed in the name of freedom and democracy. In 1945 the US justified murdering hundreds of thousands of live human souls by saying it was ‘collateral damage’, necessary to end the war. But they continue to this day waging wars all over the world to keep their military and their bases active and well-trained and to keep robbing blind the weaker nations.
14. Who is terrified of whom?
The irony is this: we have a nation of some 300 million Americans, armed to the teeth with the most devastating weapons and WMDs and yet pretending to be in a state of terror as a result of those at the receiving end of their weapons trying to resist them. Despite all of the advantages on their side, they will try to gag their opposition, double cross them and use the most unfair trickery and threats to make both friends and foes help them fight the ‘great threat’ coming from people like the backward and helpless Afghans, Libyans or anyone with a free will.
But surely this great democratic nation, with its wonderful values, would welcome membership of the International Court of Justice, be the first to recognise the rights of oppressed nations to independence, and have no need to cheat the world community? Not at all! Just as their power is obscene, so is their behaviour and tactics. But look also at the European leaders who jump to attention whenever the US shouts ‘terror’ and offer up all our armies and financial resources in the service of the master. We must ask if it is sheer terror, crazy love or membership of a gang which necessitates following the orders of the gang leader. Democracy stops dead when the will of their master comes into play.
What the US wants is total and absolute obedience from the whole world because they have convinced themselves that they are the best and most powerful. Such a sentiment, when used in action, becomes utter fascism and not less dangerous or evil than Nazism. In fact, as I have pointed out before, their behaviour since WW 2 has leant severely towards the principles, ideas and practices of the Nazis.
15. Running the country as if owned by the leader using business methods
They want absolute loyalty from all – to whatever their political system considers a red line (and they deal severely with the slightest hint of disloyalty by the citizen) – while they demand that all Iraqis, Afghans, Syrians and citizens of other countries reveal all their secrets, become collaborators and lackeys and allow the US to help themselves to their nations’ resources. This is a clear form of racism and fascism but it is a fundamental principle which is rammed down other nations’ throats by the Master Race.
16. Savage capitalism produces savage results
Capitalism has always suffered from an element of greed and profiteering but never until today did it have a religion-like philosophy associated with it. As I said previously, some practices have become entrenched in everyday life. Business is no longer about honest and above-board commercial transactions but rather about constantly rising growth, which is now another cornerstone of the capitalist value system. Below are the most obvious consequences:
a) Growth, like acceleration, cannot be maintained for ever and will inevitably break the system, as we can see happening in Europe and has been happening in the US over the past decade.
b) It can only be achieved in small doses unless extraordinary measures are taken of which I list the following:
- Monopolization. Even when Murdoch achieved global hegemony over what is euphemistically called ‘news’, his quest for more led him to try and gobble up everyone else (e.g. his bid for BSKYB).
- Cheating and dishonest action to break rivals.
- Payment of bribes and or provision of privilege such as we have found to be the case in Parliament, the police, the judiciary, etc.
- Dishonest and dubious advertising (propaganda).
- Hostile takeovers.
- Spreading rumours and lies about rivals.
- Tying up customers to your products by using addictive products or making sure the customer has no other choice. (I should remind the readers that democracy is supposed to be about choice).
- Idolising individuals based on esoteric values of richness, sexiness and modernity.
- Constant effort to reduce cost with the inevitable consequence of reduced quality for the same or even higher prices.
- Falsifying facts to prevent people from knowing the real dangers or harm of their products.
- Directing science and technology and research towards these aims rather than solving chronic human and national problems.
- Discouraging or discarding philosophies that conflict with or contradict the above values while encouraging the opposite.
- Using all their resources in favour of politicians who support these values, and hence wielding enormous power to elect them in the face of popular opinion which is neither organized nor influential (in particular since while the average person has only 10 to 15 occasions to cross the ballot box, these business giants have continuous and direct influence over those they help to ascend to power).
- Lastly, but most importantly, the principle of the End Justifies the Means.
Over the decades the above set of behavioural elements have become a major and fundamental part of the western value system and a little analysis will reveal their true extent to anyone interested in the subject.
It is also possible to see the origins of these values in the the trinity of the works of Freud, Machiavelli and Darwin.
17. Encouraging monopolies and accumulation of wealth in the hands of individuals or entities of certain characteristics and aspects
The appearance of tyrannical businessmen and blocs with such power that entire governments become subservient to their will is the direct result of the system upholding and propagating such values. It also means that these businesses and their owners, families etc. will extend their influence into all walks of life in the form of bribes, sweeteners and privileges offered and bestowed on elected as well as unelected officials and members of public institutions. Members of Parliament, ministers, judges and police chiefs have all been systematically compromised and corrupted by such practices, which means that the ordinary citizen will have to settle for second, third or tenth class status while the system is engaged in serving and servicing the needs of these groups.
To be continued (Part 5 is the final part).
