At least four people were killed today in a suicide car bomb attack in the heart of Erbil, the capital of south Kurdistan. Mayor Nawzad Hadi told Rudaw TV that the bomber had tried to enter the Erbil citadel grounds but failed, and so he detonated his explosives-packed car outside the complex. The explosion occurred near the entrance to the governor’s office. It is reported that three of those killed were guards and that at least 22 people were wounded and have been taken to hospital. Some reports say another booby-trapped vehicle at the scene has been deactivated.

This is the first fatal suicide attack on Erbil since September 2013. Although no one has claimed responsbility, it is believed that ISIS are behind today’s bombing, making it their first fatal attack on Erbil since the jihahdists were stopped from advancing on the city in August by a combination of US air strikes and pershmarga forces.

12 years of incessant conflict. Is not there any other particle solution? Why not split Iraq?
