KT News:
A delegation from the BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) and the recently-formed HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Congress) is due to meet PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) leader Abdullah Öcalan in his İmralı island prison today.
The delegation comprises BDP group deputy chairs Pervin Buldan and İdris Baluken, and HDP co-chair Sırrı Süreyya Önder.
Buldan said they would release a written statement after the meeting. This is the 13th such parliamentary visit to the PKK leader who has been imprisoned for 14 years.
Önder was a BDP MP before he aligned with the HDP, which was set up with Öcalan’s backing following this year’s Gezi protests to bring together Kurdish and Turkish opposition to the government.
