Yakob Rasol Mohamed, a young journalist in the south of Kurdistan, was shot dead in front of his house in the town of Qalaidiza on Wednesday night (September 18th).

The police have arrested a number of people but currently there are no details of anyone being charged. A group of local independent newspapers – Hawlati, Awena,Lvinpress and Shapress – have issued a statement condemning the murder and calling on the authorities to find out who was responsible.

The statement says: “This is not only an attack on the young journalist Yakob Rasol Mohamed but it is an attack on free speech and freedom of journalism”

This crime has shocked the whole journalist community in the final run up to the parliamentary elections on Saturday.

    Yakob is the most dedicated staff for Kurdsat the pro PUK TV channell ,most of the time he covered the events and progress of most of the projects in the town of Qaladiza.He bourn in Qaladiza he was married and have one daughter .the Kurdsat PUK channell has paid the big attention to his death .
