Stop these deadly ‘celebrations’

By Shwan Dizayee:

I don’t look up at the sky so much when I am in Kurdistan. This is not because of any lack of beauty, clearness or visible stars, but because of flying bullets.

Today there is news of ‘celebratory’ gunshots in Sulaimani following the release of footage showing Mam Jalal voting this morning at a polling station in Berlin. As a result it seems that a young student was shot in the head whilst attending university within the supposedly safe grounds of her campus, and reports are coming in of other people being injured, including women and children.

I find it inconceivable how people don’t grasp the simple fact: if you shoot something in the air, it has to fall back down and land somewhere (as the law of gravity explains), and it isn’t eaten up by the clouds. I have seen plenty of photos and videos, of teenagers mainly, being posted on Facebook showing them getting involved in taking shots in the air in celebration or just to announce their manhood. A practice that was used years ago to announce the approach of an enemy at war or the coming of danger is now used to endanger the lives of non-combatants, which is simply unacceptable and barbaric.

This outdated, senseless and absolutely unnecessary act needs to stop. I beg the people of Sulaimani and other regional provinces to keep well away from such acts; both to deter instigators and avoid victims. Great news should not be at the expense of a family’s grievance. My thought and prayers with the young student and others injured.

Those foolish men will never be wise…
kurdish People will not change themselves and they do want those parties and their leaders!!!…
KDP,PUK,islamists, and finally Gorran of Nawshirwan Mustafa. Your article directly has to do with policy of our region and here it is time for writing some words on latter:
Imagin a condition that MR. Nawshirwan Mustafa decides to join with the PUK…
Here, we see no one wants to change political power of the kurdistan region and all slaves of the Gorran (like slaves of other parties)clap blindly to Nawshirwan Mustafa and tell him you did right!!!??? so, there is only Nawshirwan wants to change old power not kurdish foolish people (this is a fake change and fraud) or others inside the movement!
But look at here:if someone stood up opposite Nawshirwan and would told him you deceived us and did not follow him and told to the people do not follow Nawshirwan and yes to change all mountain leaders…
Really, real change begins with this man and here…
And I deeply think Gorran reapets the same political errors of the PUK and as before(PUK did). After agreement between Barzani and Nawshirwan… I think, votiing to Gorran means voting to KDP’s political adenda… I do not say this as a achivement for the PUK election’s propaganda… (PUK reaches to its end) but this is a truth and(KDP’s political adenda) will bring our destiny to another setback like 1976…
I wrote these words not only I am a member of another parties and I think all of them are one, but also I wrote as intellectual and a democratic person …
