A ‘Million Man March’ is due to take place today in the Iraqi cities of Anbar and Samarah, in protest against Nuri Maliki’s Shia-dominated government. This mass demonstration will be supported by other protests called by Sunni parties and activists in Baghdad, Samara, Mousul, Dywania and other cities across the south of Iraq.

The protests are due to happen after Friday prayers and, for this reason, today has been designated as ‘Privilege Friday’.

The Sunni tribes are protesting against the recent arrests and imprisonment of many Sunnis in Fallujah and other cities.

Observers believe this could be the way to bring down the Maliki government which has lost the support of the mass of the people.
