kOBANE 2 (2)

Kurdish mothers are defending their families against Islamic terrorists in Rojava Kurdistan (Syria). Those who do not defend themselves may be eliminated by terrorist groups in the region. The major Kurdish Party in Syria, PYD, has called for help from Kurdish fellows in Bakur Kurdistan (Turkey) and South Kurdistan (Iraq), to confront the insurgent attacks. In response, the Kurdistan Regional Presidency has released a statement encouraging the engagement of all political parties of Rojava Kurdistan (Syria) in the operations against terrorist organizations. Over 2,500 prisoners in Kurdistan

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is building four big prisons as the number of the prisoners increased. KRG officials stated that currently there are 2600 prisoners in Kurdistan who have been sentenced for various amounts of time. A recent Amnesty International report about Iraq and the conditions of its prisons revealed a high rate of executions by Iraqi Government, but the rate is very low in the Kurdistan Region. As a result, there has been an increase in the number of prisoners are increased sentenced to death or for life in Kurdistan which has, for some time, suspended the execution law. (Xendan, KT)
