Baby Amed
Kawa Germyani’s widow Shereen has given birth to a baby boy at Kalar hospital this morning at 9.30 am local time. A crowd of supporters was waiting outside the hospital to support the family and Kawa’s brother told local reporters that mum and baby are fine.
The baby boy will be called Amed, which was the original name for Dyarbakir in the north of Kurdistan before the Turkish state changed it.
Amed was born 17 days after his father was brutally murdered because of his dedication to his profession as an independent journalist.
Many people are expecting the prime suspects in this case – Mahmoud Sangawi and some of his fellow PUK commanders in the Garmayan area – to be prosecuted. A warrant has being issued for Mahmoud Sangawi’s arrest. He has denied all the accusations and said that he will appear before the Kalar court, which has a recording of him making threats to Kawa in the period before his murder.
