Israel claims seizing Iran’s shipment of rockets to Gaza, Iran calls this claim a lie

By Ava Homa:

TORONTO, Canada – Israel and Iran continue to accuse each other of lying, each government calling the other a terrorist.

Israel recently announced that they have seized an Iranian shipment of rockets sailing in the Red Sea off Sudan. The ship allegedly contained Syrian-made rockets and was intended for Palestinian militants in Gaza.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said that they found M-302 surface-to-surface missiles that were first flown to Iran and there loaded onto the ship. The weapons were hidden under bags of cement and the 17 member crew were apparently unaware of the weapons.

Israel authorities say the rockets were capable of striking almost anywhere in Israel, including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

Hamas, the militant Palestinian Islamic movement that is currently curbing Gaza, denied any involvement with the shipment.
Israel is only making up a tale to “”justify the blockade” of the coastal territory, Hamas said.

Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iran’s foreign minister mocked the news and denied it. “An Iranian ship carrying arms for Gaza. Captured just in time for annual AIPAC anti Iran campaign. Amazing Coincidence! Or same failed lies,” he tweeted.

What he calls “just in time” is the timing of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) conference, which was held in U.S. earlier this week.

Israeli military spokesman Brig-Gen Moti Almoz said. “There is clear and unequivocal information that this came from Iran.”
Was Zarif unaware of the shipment or was he lying? Either case is alarming.

In his recent visit to Los Angeles, California, Netanyahu said that the discovery of the ship shows “the true face of Iran” to world powers who try to negotiate with Iran.

“Iran has been exposed for what it is,” he told reporters. “It smiles in the Geneva talks about its own nuclear ambitions, gives soothing words, and as they’re doing that, they’re shipping these deadly weapons to the world’s worst terrorists.”

Iran insists that their nuclear program was solely for “peaceful purposes.” Israel says it strictly controls its border with Gaza only for “security reasons.” Gaza also faces a naval blockade. Egypt blockades its borders with Gaza.

When at the World Economic Forum, Hassan Rouhani, Iran’s President, talked about peace in the region, Netanyahu mocked his speech and announced that Iran cannot send weapons to Syria and talk about peace.

The two countries that continually accuse each other of “terrorism” and “lying” both have a history of violating human rights.
