The initial Save Kobane conference at Amed

Following the ISIS genocidal attack on Kobane last week, today’s conference at the European Parliament to discuss the rebuildng of the city assumes added signifcance. As Kobane’s deputy foreign minister Idriss Nassan has put it: “Rebuilding is another form of resistance to terrorism”.

The conference is being live-streamed at: http://helpkobane.com/

The event will be hosted by Jean Lambert, a European politician (and Green MEP for London) who will argue in her opening remarks that:

“There is a need for a clear policy towards those in Syria fighting against Da’esh (ISIS) and for democracy. In the area of Kobane, that means the Kurds as well as others. To ensure effective support, that will mean a change of policy not only by the Turkish Government but other governments too. A meaningful peace process in Turkey would make it possible to get humanitarian and reconstruction aid across the border into the Kobane region; it would mean the Kurdish forces could be supported in defence of their territory and it would help end the deliberate mixing of concerns about Kurdish democratic autonomy with terrorism. Those who promote democracy, women’s participation and care for the earth are promoting universal values and should be supported in their struggle against those who would destroy them”.

What message does the 4th of July American Independence Day say ? Where is Kurdistan’s independence President Barzani? How long for and who to wait on? Either go for it or retire.
