KT under attack – and fighting back

By the Editors:

The Kurdistan Tribune (KT) came under a massive ‘distributed denial of service’ (DDOS) attack last night, forcing the site offline for about 12 hours. This was not the first cyber atack on KT but it was the biggest to date. Our hosts – a major internet provider – say it was exceptionally severe. We can, of course, think of several possible culprits.

This brief message is to let you know that – in the spirit of the glorious Kobani resistance – surrender is not an option for KT. But we need your support to survive and we will be asking for it very soon. Last night’s attack makes us more determined to find the means to protect KT and expand it into a more effective, 100% independent platform for Kurdish news and opinion – championing the cause of Greater Kurdistan and democratic values – whose assets will belong to the global Kurdish community. Watch this space for more details. If you want to help the campaign, please contact us

What freedom of expression? It exists and is supposed when you write in favor of governments. Hope KT will be more prepared for next attacks.

A writer/critic can end up for 25 years behind the bars in ME. In Saddams era, penalty was death sentence. In USA, it’s government surveillance and benefits loss. There is always some kind of punitive reaction. Freedom of Expression does not exist 100% anyway around the world.

KT: Carry on. Thanks for enlightening the world about Kurdish sufferings and miseries. NEVER STOP!
