Kadir Hamajan wants to distort truth about death of ex-mayor of Suli

KT News and Comment:

Zana Hama Salih

Ex-mayor Zana Hama Salih was found dead in his cell in April

For the last two weeks the trial of those accused of land corruption in the area in Qualraisi has been underway. Last week Kadir Hamajan – director of the Sulaymani security office and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) politburo member – gave his evidence to the court. This has provoked an outcry from relatives of the accused.

The widow of former Mayor  Zana Hama Salih – who was found dead in his cell, in suspicious circumstances, in April – told local news agencies that Hamajan had subjected her husband to intimidation and assault before he died. She said Harmajan told her husband: “You have to admit to all the corruption”.

“Basically he (Harmajan) used him to save his own and other peoples’ necks”, she added.

The relatives of others who are now on trial also refuted the statements made by Kadir Hamajan, with one telling Hawlati that: “these kind of statements are baseless and untrue”.

Relatives are particularly unhappy with Hamajan’s claim on NRT TV that none of the arrested has been tortured. They maintain that, in reality, everyone arrested has been tortured by the local security office.
