Kurdish women activists assassinated in Paris

Sakine Cansız, Fidan Dogan and Leyla Söylemez – shot dead

Kurds around the world are shocked at the news that three Kurdish women – including Sakine Cansiz, a co-founder of the PKK – were shot dead in Paris last night.

The bodies of the three women were found inside the Kurdish Information Centre in the centre of Paris. The other two victims have been named as Fidan Dogan, a representative of the Brussels-based National Congress of Kurdistan, and Leyla Söylemez.

Sakine Cansiz had spent many years in Turkish jails.

Members of the Kurdish community demonstrated outside the information centre as the French Interior Minister, Manuel Valls, visited the scene of the shootings this morning.

Reuters has quoted Turkish state sources predictably blaming a ‘split inside the PKK’, but Kurds are asking who stands to benefit from these terrible murders.

We await further information but possible suspects include sections of the Turkish state or Turkish far-right groups that want to divide and disorientate the Kurdish movement and possibly derail the recently renewed talks with jailed PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan. There will also be speculation about the possible involvement of the intelligence agencies of other Middle Eastern states. Whatever is the truth that emerges, Kurds must stand united.

CORRECTION: The assassinations took place at the Kurdish Information Centre and not the Kurdish Institute of Paris, as was incorrectly reported by AFP earlier today.

I am Sorry that they have been assassinated
This accident it was sad news for Kurdish people and it is not the first time that Kurdish political activists in Europe countries are killed by brutal persons … because does not appear to French authorities (like neighborhood authorities in the past) do any work against murders of Kurdish politicians… I don’t believe them do anything….
