The office of fugitive Iraq vice-president Tariq Hashimi has issued a statement claiming that two more of Hashimi’s bodyguards have been tortured and killed by militiamen loyal to prime minister Nuri Maliki.
The statement says the two men were killed before the recent Arab summit in Baghdad but that the news was suppressed until now. It calls on fellow MPs in the Iraq parliament to ensure there is an investigation into this crime, saying this is their moral obligation.
It says the men were forced to sign false confessions before they died.
This incident is another example of the murderous brutality of Maliki’s forces towards his opponents.
