Opposition should not boycott the meeting with Masud Barzani

By Mufid Abdulla:

According to reports from south Kurdistan, President Masud Barzani has invited all the political parties to a meeting today at the presidential palace in Salahadin.

The opposition parties, Gorran, the  KIU and the Islamic League, have announced that they will once more boycott  the meeting.

Our view is that only talks can save Kurdistan.

The Opposition should go to the palace and deliver their message to the dictators and despots of Kurdistan.

To get anywhere in this highly dangerous environment the strategy for the opposition should be “talk, talk and more talk”.

They should tell President Barzani:

  • Two-thirds of Kurdistan does not support you.
  • People are sick and tired of family rule.
  • People are being ruined by high inflation, with the soaring prices of basic commodities.
  • Your government should go now, before things get out of hand like in Syria and Libya.

It is necessary to meet the president of Kurdistan because ordinary people do not have this opportunity. The Opposition should address a host of problems  and, in particular, the fact that Masud Barzani is at odds with the mass of the people.

For the first few days of the event from 2nd December 2011 the KDP followers were very compliant and appologistic about what happened in Zhakr and elsewhere in the Badinan area. But for the last 48 hours these people it seems to me they know very well that the mass of people are very angry over the issue of storming the KIU headquarter for that reason KDP heavy handed and they start using forces arresting a lot of members of KIU leadership and supporters. People in Kurdistan now realise that the civil war in 1994 they started because they wont be able to survive without violence. I believe the opposition still should try to see and meet these dictators even though a little chance for reform and democracy.
