On 21 August 2011, seven members of the same family were killed by a Turkish warplane. They were: Hussein Mustafa Hassan, Sonya Shamal Hassan, Mer Haji Mak Kak, Oskar Awzer Hassan, Rezan Hussein Mustafa and Zana Hussein Mustafa. The family were residents of the village of Boleni of Binari Qandil. Turkey regularly bombs the Kurdistan border regions on the pretext of eliminating Kurdish rebels of the PKK.

Freedom Umbrella (Chatre Azadi) is holding a protest on Friday in front of the Turkish embassy in London to condemn the shelling of the mountainous area on the border of Kurdistan by the Turkish authorities. A statement issued by the organisation demands: “Stop shelling the border region of Kurdistan and compensation must made to the victims of this bombardment”.

The Freedom Umbrella urges members of the Kurdish community in the UK to take part in this protest.
